W. Abercrombie, was born April 16, 1846; was married to Miss Elizabeth Brookshire in 1863. Miss Emiline Abercrombie, their daughter, was born 1865, and married at 18 to Joseph Shipley. And their daughter, Etta Shipley, was married to W.C. Jones at the age of 18, from which union comes baby Jones, now 10 months olf. Uncle Clem, as he is known by his neighbors, comes from a prolific and long lived family, he being one of 13 brothers and sisters. He is the father of 12 children, 6 boys and 6 girls. He has 39 grand children, and 38 great great grand children. His wife has been dead several years and sleeps on the hillside at Saltville by whose side the husband and father expects to rest by and by awaiting the morning of the resurrection in hope of eternal life.

1902 CODICIL: KS, Mitchell County, Salt Creek: I Clemeth Abercrombie of Salt Creek, Mitchell County, Dansas, a farmer do make this my codicil...to my son, John H. (Fam records).

1907 OBITUARY: KS, The Beloit Gazette, 21 Nov 1907: Clemeth Abercrombie was born 28 Jul 1822 in Hall County, Georgia and departed this life on 17 Nov 1907, aged 85 years, 3 months and 20 days. He was married 4 Mar 1841 to Miss Emeline Jones, of the same place and together they journeyed life's pathway until 25 Aug 1899 when the loved wife was taken away by the hand of death. This left the husband and father alone in his old age and since then he make his home with some of his children most of the time. His daughters, Mrs. Frank Wilson and Mrs. J.W. Simmons cared for him in the years since the death of the wife and mother. He was a man of well-preserved health and strength even up to almost the last of his long life. His correct manner of life and good moral and religious life gave him not only length of days but also a peaceful old age and an east and abundant entrance into the better world. He was a member of the Baptist Church from early in life and was exemplary in his profession of the christian faith. He was also a member of the Masonic order. For sixty years he was highly respected in the several lodges to which he belonged. His life of good will toward all and his generous hospitality and courteous manner so common in the South won for him many friends. A good neighbor and citizen has passed away but he will live in memory as only the kind the good can do. The funeral took place on the 19th inst., the services being held in Saltville Chapel, near where the deceased had his home so many years and where he so often attendied services. The large number who attended the funeral was evidence of the esteem in which he was held. The services were conducted by Elder B.F. McMillan who preached the sermon from Job 5:26 - "Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in his season." Deceased had twelve children in all, six sons and six daughters and by his counsel and example hs left the impress of his life never to be effaced or forgotten by the surviving members of the family. Out of the twelve there still remain ten of the number, but only three could be present at the funeral. At this time of writing two of the number are sick - Mr. W.W. Abercrombie, who lives in Stillwater, Oklahoma and Mr. O.P. Turner who lives in Salt Creek township and is a confirmed invalid. These could not be present. Three of the number live in the far West and could not be present in time for the burial. It was fitting that he was buried in the place where his wife and kindred sleep their last sleep until the resurrection. It was fitting that the order to which he belonged should be present and conclude all with thie impressive and beautiful service over his grave, and last of all it is the common sentiment and wish of human hearts that the body may rest amid the scenes of active life and the monuments of the loved ones who are dead. His life in Mitchell County for over thirty-five years closed peacefully. As the stream widens in its approach to the sea, so his life was broadened in the estimation of God and man as his soul drifted away to be the sea of eternity.

Emeline Sarah JONES

TOMBSTONE: KS, Mitchell County, Saltville Cemetary, Photo:

Emeline Sarah Jones Abercrombie, born1 7 Nov. 1824, died 25 Aug 1899.

1899 OBITURARY: GA, From the Dahlonega Signal, Sep 15, 1899, page 3, col 1, 1st item:

We are in receipt of a letter from Saltville, Mitchell County, Kansas, announcing the death of Mrs. C.
